Press Releases/Statements:
08 Jan. '08 |   CEC Spokesperson on Actions of Opposition at CEC

Tbilisi, 01.08.08 – At 17:00 the CEC spokesman Irakli Porchkhidze commented on the actions of the Unified Opposition in the Central Election Commission. – "The CEC is ready to respond to every allegation after credible documented evidence is presented”, he stated.

Most of the election commissions have acted strictly in line with norms of the Election Code. We are aware of some flaws in few precincts, which are being carefully studied. When  there is sufficient evidence, the proper steps will be taken to solve the issue.

All representatives of every political party, as well as all persons directly involved such as election officials and observers have the right to file complaints at all levels of the electoral administration as well as to seize the courts.

It should be stressed that every decision at every level of the election administration was made with the involvement of the representatives of the seven opposition and ruling parties.

Some flaws happen in every election, even in the most advanced democracies, Georgia is no exception. It should be emphasized that the scope of the violations has not been important enough to alter the overall picture of fair elections.  The elections were conducted in line with all major international standards and this is corroborated by the assessments made by all international and domestic observers.
