Ruling Party in Lead in Leaked IRI-Commissioned Polls
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 25 Jul.'12 / 19:35

A recent public opinion poll, commissioned by the U.S. International Republican Institute (IRI) and leaked to the media, shows ruling United National Movement (UNM) party in lead with 43%, followed by Bidzina Ivanishvili-led Georgian Dream opposition coalition with 24% and Christian-Democratic Movement (CDM) with 7%, the Georgian media sources reported.

5% of 1,503 surveyed respondents said they would vote for none of the party and 19% either refused to answer or said they did not know for which party they would vote, according to IRI-commissioned poll, which was fielded by Tbilisi-based Institute of Polling and Marketing (IPM) between June 26 and July 4 and which has a margin of error of 2.5%.

A previous poll commissioned by IRI and fielded by IPM in late March and early April showed UNM with 45% support; followed by Georgian Dream and CDM with 15% and 9%, respectively.

A separate poll for the U.S. National Democratic Institute (NDI), fielded between June 4 and June 22 by Caucasus Resource Research Centers (CRRC), showed ruling party with 36% support among likely voters – 11 percentage points down from NDI-commissioned previous poll in late February, and Georgian Dream with 18%, an eight percentage points more than in February; CDM had 3%, according to the same poll released publicly by NDI on July 16.
