Coal Miners End Strike
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 4 Feb.'11 / 17:30

Coal miners in Tkibuli of Imereti region ended strike after reaching a deal with the mine operator company on February 3, the Georgian Trade Unions’ Confederation (GTUC) said.

Coal miners in Tkibuli began strike to demand improvement of working conditions in the mine, which saw three explosions over the past year leaving nine miners dead and ten injured, on February 2.

The deal between coal mine operator company Saknakhshiri and mine workers’ union was welcomed by GTUC, which said that the agreement addressed all the key concerns of miners, which triggered their strike, including pay rise and improvement of safety norms in the mine.
