Georgia Establishes Diplomatic Ties with 13 Nations

Georgia has established diplomatic relations with 13 countries this year with island nations of Fiji and Comoros latest in this series of Tbilisi’s recent international efforts.

Diplomatic and consular relations are being established based the principle of mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, according to the Georgian Foreign Ministry.

Georgia’s UN ambassador, Alexander Lomaia, signed joint communiqué with his counterpart from Fiji on establishment of diplomatic relations on March 29 and a similar document was signed by him with Comoros on March 26.

Earlier this year the similar documents were signed with Brunei, the Republic of Maldives, Marshall Islands and Samoa.

Also earlier this year, Georgia has established diplomatic ties with four Latin American countries - Dominican Republic, Paraguay, Peru and Saint Lucia and with three African countries - Botswana, Cape Verde, and Liberia.

Georgia has diplomatic relations with total of 135 out of 191 UN-member states, according to the Georgian Foreign Ministry.
