U.S. Allocates USD 50 mln Assistance for Georgia

The United States will allocate further USD 50 million as part of its USD 1 billion assistance pledge made for Georgia after the August war, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) said on Wednesday.
 
USD 16.55 million from this recent installment will be allocated for municipal infrastructure development program; USD 12.3 million will be envisaged for the second phase of Shida Kartli region recovery programs, involving support in reestablishing agricultural production.

USD 9.22 million of this USD 50 million installment will go for renovation of about fifty schools in ethnic minority and geographically remote areas and also in locations where internally displaced persons were housed after the August war. USD 7.35 million for - employment and vocational training; USD 2.14 million for - survey and clearance of landmines; USD 1.55 million for - reintegration assistance for persons displaced from their homes after the August war.

USD 872,000 will be allocated for the Georgian Coast Guard to replace equipment at the Anaklia radar station and the Poti Coast Guard base that was “damaged or stolen in the conflict,” USAID said.

According to USAID over the next two years, the U.S. will continue to provide assistance to Georgia in fulfillment of the USD 1 billion pledge.
