Georgian police post in the village of Nikozi at the South Ossetian administrative border came under “intense fire” from the breakaway region’s capital Tskhinvali late on July 29, the Georgian Interior Ministry said.

It said that fire was opened at 11:30pm local time and lasted for an hour. The Interior Ministry also said that fire was opened from mortars and machine guns.

The South Ossetian side, however, said that fire was opened by the Georgian side from the village of Nikozi.

“Two explosions occurred in the southern outskirts of Tskhinvali. According to the preliminary information two shots were fired from grenade launchers in direction of residential buildings,” the breakaway region’s governmental website said.

Neither of the sides reported about casualties.
