MP Links Ukraine, Georgia Early Elections Demand with Kremlin
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 7 Feb.'09 / 15:47

Givi Targamadze, a senior lawmaker from the ruling party, said on February 7 that the Kremlin had launched a campaign “to overthrow” the Georgian and Ukrainian statehood by June.

MP Targamadze, the chairman of parliamentary committee for defense and security, told journalists that leader of Ukrainian pro-Russian Regions Party Viktor Yanukovich’s demand for early parliamentary and presidential elections amounted “to launch of an attempt to implement Russia’s plan of overthrowing the Ukrainian statehood.”

“The Kremlin has even set a deadline in which this process should be accomplished – no later than June,” MP Givi Targamadze said and added: “We can assume that the same deadline for the same purpose has been set by the Kremlin in respect of Georgia as well.”

About a dozen of opposition parties signed a joint declaration on January 29 calling for President Saakashvili’s resignation and hodling of early presidential and parliamentary elections.
