Merkel: No MAP for Georgia for Now
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 2 Apr.'08 / 21:19

Georgia and Ukraine's prospects for NATO membership in the future are good, but now is not the right time to give them Membership Action Plans (MAP), German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on April 2.

Speaking upon her arrival in Bucharest at the NATO summit, she said, according to the German Press Agency (DPA): “We think that the time for a MAP has not yet come.”

Merkel said on March 10: “Countries that are enmeshed in regional and internal conflicts cannot become NATO members.”
