Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 23 Aug.'07 / 17:29

An unmanned Georgian reconnaissance aircraft flew into Abkhaz-controlled lower Kodori Gorge late on August 22, Stanislav Lakoba, the secretary of the Abkhaz National Security Council said. He added it flew from the Tbilisi-controlled upper Kodori Gorge.

The Abkhaz authorities have also claimed that unidentified Georgian aircraft intruded into the unrecognized republic’s airspace over the Gali district late on August 22.

In a statement, the Abkhaz Foreign Ministry, said these were “acts directed towards an escalation of tensions in the conflict zone.”

The allegations come after the Georgian side claimed Russian aircraft had flown over upper Kodori Gorge on August 21.
